Wisconsin Community Fund Announces Media Justice Fund Grantees

Interviews: Bruce Moffat, Executive Director 608.251.6834, bruce@wcfund.org

January 23, 2008

Wisconsin Community Fund, a state-wide social justice grantmaking organization, announces five recipients of Media Justice Fund grants with grants totaling $27,450.

According to Bruce Moffat, Executive Director of Wisconsin Community Fund, “These five organizations are working on the cutting edge of media reform.” He goes on to praise the grantees for challenging the media as we know it today. “It takes real dedication to buck the traditional media system and work for meaningful change. Whether it’s combating the representation of minority stereotypes or giving voice to communities otherwise silent in traditional media sources, I applaud the work of Wisconsin Community Fund’s Media Justice Grant recipients.”

Since 1982, the Fund has brought progressive donors and activists together to support grassroots groups working on a variety of social change issues. Because Wisconsin Community Fund’s grant making process is controlled by activists from the communities we serve, our funding supports the most strategic work unfolding at the local level.

Examples of other issues funded by Wisconsin Community Fund include globalization, poverty, war, racism, sexism, homophobia and environmental destruction. In its history, the Fund has granted more than $1 million to groups working for social justice throughout Wisconsin.
